Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you; I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27
Have you ever thought about the notion that peace is our inheritance? And not only that, but the peace that Jesus has left us with cannot be taken from us by any circumstance of the world? If we are being honest with ourselves, how often do we turn to worldly things to relieve us of our troubles? Maybe we take a vacation to simply get away from the chaos or spend time in nature to clear our minds. When Jesus says “I do not give to you as the world gives”, my understanding is that He wants to meet us right in the midst of our trouble/chaos. We may sometimes benefit from stepping away from our day-to-day responsibilities, but that is not a requirement for Jesus to intervene. He will meet us right where we are, as He purely wants to calm the storm & quiet the waves. Let’s not forget what Jesus went through on Earth to give us peace beyond this world. If He did all of that for us and is still alive in us today, then we have no reason to fear. May we experience the peace that has been promised this Advent season, because Jesus is our peace and He will never stop working to accomplish His purpose through each and every one of us!
